Ibiza city (Vila)

The Paseo de Vara de Rey could be considered the most central part of the city. On the right hand side, looking towards the Port, there is a tourist information office (it is not the only one) where they offer all kinds of free brochures and maps that are very useful and interesting about beaches, possible tours of Dalt Vila, hippy markets, etc. Nearby is the Plaza del Parque, very lively and full of bars, perfect for a break. In general, this whole part of the city is very beautiful. After a few minutes’ walk, we reach the Plaza del Mercado, which is where the market used to be. Although some stalls still exist, the main market is located in another, more modern part of the city. In the same Market Square is “El Portal de Ses Taules” and very close to the Sa Penya neighborhood. One of the most curious and lively streets in this neighborhood is Mare de Deu street or, as it is popularly known, “La calle de la Virgen“, it is full of shops, local atmosphere and leads to a viewpoint. There we will find some stairs that go down to the neighborhood of La Marina (commercial port). More or less in the middle of this we can find the obelisk to the corsairs, the only public tribute in the world to pirates. In the late afternoon they usually put up several hippie stalls and late at night, the best-known clubs usually make their advertising parades, very original and colorful, a show that really livens up the place. All the pedestrian streets that are located behind the port are also part of the essential tour of the city.
